Readers of the Dragonlance Chronicles and the Forgotten Realms will find the names Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. These two names make up a powerhouse tandem that has brought us some great fantasy titles under TSR.
The latest books they've written that I've read is the Deathgate Cycle series, specifically Elven Star. I really enjoyed this book, but the element that made it more fun for me was the appearance of a lovable character that was originally introduced as Fizban, the absent-minded wizard who trailed and amused (and exasperated!) the companions as they traveled. Closest to his heart was Tasselhoff Burfoot, the kender.
In Elven Star he calls himself Zifnab and he acts the busybody. His dragon (who is still unnamed) pretends to be schizo being a ravening animal one moment, and a fuddy-duddy the next. This book shows us that being snobbish about our race is foolhardy and that in the end it is through working together that we can reach our goal and (hopefully) succeed.
