The Heroes are at it again.

First it was Heroes season 1 vs. season 2 cast.
Then it was Heroes vs. Pirates (Black Pearl Philippines).
Now, for the third foray, we have Heroes vs. Hogwarts.

As before, the rules are simple:
- bowl in costume
- no using of powers
- let's all have fun!

There are nifty certificates to be given out and everyone is bound to have a good time. It doesn't matter if you already know how to bowl or not. Everyone is bound to have a blast!

Photo AlbumHeroes Unmasked and Guitar Heroes (20 photos)Jan 20, '08 8:02 PM
for everyone

It's another Heroes day at Kamuning.

Alec brought over the PS2 and the guitar controllers from Cubao but with 20 episodes of Heroes Unmasked to watch, Guitar Hero had very little use. As a matter of fact, only Simon, Erika, and I got to play with it that day.

The usual suspects arrived, plus a few new ones (Abbey, Paul, and Jon).

Sorry, the shots are dark.

As usual, I was camera-challenged so I'm just snitching pics from family and friends. Here are selected photos I got from Allan, Erika, Mark, Shey, Tobie, Yani. Click on their names to be brought to the original albums.

Photo AlbumNW5 Theme (2 photos)Oct 18, '07 3:11 PM
for everyone

In honor of the upcoming convention I decided to whip out a theme. Feel free to make use of it, folks, to promote the event.

I based this theme on the skyline theme.

One more thing, to put the navbar below the header photo, click on EDIT in the header (site name) frame and type in <br> several times AFTER the title (site name) until the navbar falls below the header graphic.

Below is the CSS:

These photos were taken on Day 6 (July 14) and I wore the TOS uniform. On Day 7 (July 15) I wore the Xena costume while Kasuy and Kimi wore Gabrielle and Hope respectively. It was a fun and tiring event! I will be adding more photos as they are posted by my friends.

Thank you again to all the "in-house photographers", hehehe.
By the way, I just saw the TV ad of the event online so for those who haven't seen it, here it is.

for everyone
Start:     Aug 11, '07 6:00p
Location:     A Different Bookstore at Serendra
We will be reviewing The Tale of the Body Thief.

Returning to Lestat as the main character, the fourth in the Vampire Chronicles series finds Lestat impulsive and careless in the pursuit of what he wants: a serial killer in Southern Florida. Lestat is surrounded by mortals in this tale, an a new worthy counterpoint character to Lestat is introduced, Raglan James. James is a vampire hunter, and a formidable adversary for Lestat. James offers Lestat the opportunity to switch bodies temporarily with a young mortal. Against Louis' advice, Lestat accepts and discovers he hates everything about being human. He also finds that James has disappeared with Lestat's powerful vampire body. Louis refuses to help Lestat become a vampire again, and he turns to another mortal to help him trick James into switching souls, and giving up Lestat's body.

Centering on the themes of body and soul and soul migration, The Tale of the Body Thief is a novel of action.

Interesting Fact:
Anne planned and wrote large parts of The Tale of the Body Thief while on a Caribbean cruise, recalling later that she became Lestat, figuring how to escape from this deck to that.

Things to look forward to at The Gathering:
  • riveting conversation
  • fascinating company
  • donuts
  • coffee
  • and lots of vamps!

Blog EntryMy date with Harry Potter and the Deathly HollowsJul 20, '07 11:30 PM
for everyone
The day started with a phone call from Johnny at 7:30am asking me if I had my copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows yet.  That woke me up quickly!

After my morning ablutions, I skipped breakfast and made the usual walk down our heavily rutted street (that the local government has yet to address properly) to get to the corner and grab a cab that will bring me to Fully Booked at Gateway Mall in Cubao.  I could have taken the jeep, I suppose, but I was impatient.

The cab ride was uneventful ... usual Saturday morning traffic ... which means there was hardly any.  The most aggressive occupant of the street being the buses.  I arrive at Gateway close to 9am.  As I enter Fully Booked the first person I saw was ... who else, but ... Nick!  Again!  I swear, this guy is all over the place! hehehe.
Sidenote:  Nick didn't know I've been a Ravenclaw since New Worlds 2.  I guess I've been too quiet in the lists and forums.  When the old castle was attacked by Dementors and the new castle was built, I don't even know if I was able to re-register.  I made sure Erika did, though.
I arrive --- reservation slip and balance in hand --- to claim my book.  Yey!  Excited!  I finally have ... the precious!  Oops!  Wrong fandom!   I also received a Hermione Granger button and a chance to win an authentic replica of Harry Potter's wand made by Noble Collection.  I want the wand!  I want to give it to my daughter.  I've got too many fandoms so, since Erika and I match at Harry Potter, I'll just help her build up her PHP paraphernalia.

Here are some photos of the display at Gateway Mall in Cubao.  It begins in Fully Booked then moves down to the display area at the 2nd level near the atrium.  Books were available as early as 7:00am.

There was a Harry Potter Uno game there and the prize for winning official games was one of these awesome official Harry Potter book markers.

See the little girl?  Not the tall one, the little one on the chair?  That innocent-looking 6-year old poppet is actually an animagus ... a savage Uno-beast that creamed us (me, her sister, and her mom) at Harry Potter Uno and went home with the prize ... a Platform 9 3/4 book marker.  AAAARGH!!!! I really wanted to win that, too!  By the way, she had a choice between:
  • a nimbus 2000 book marker
  • Harry's glasses book marker
  • Platform 9 3/4 book marker
This kid was sneaky.  She and her sister got sorted into Hufflepuff but I think she really should be a Slytherin.  After all, aren't the Slytherins the cunning ones?    She acted like she didn't know the game and then WHAM!  She hit me with +2 and +4 cards one after the other!  Congratulations, Ah-an!

And now, if you will all excuse me, I think I will go and read my book, hehehe.  So far, I'm on page 30.

Blog EntryXenaPH made a splash at New Worlds: TransformedJul 17, '07 12:17 AM
for everyone
New Worlds:  Transformed was a week long event (July 9 to 15) and let me tell ya, it was TIRING!  It was also a lot of fun, especially on the weekend when everyone came in costume.

For XenaPH, though, the preparation was pretty intense in as far as costume making was concerned.  It took us a month to assemble the costume and yet, there were still 1 or 2 parts of it missing ... but not anything greatly missed.

At Pao's insistence, Kasuy and I wore Xena and Gabrielle on Sunday instead of Saturday as we originally planned and joined the cosplay contest.  Joining the cosplay contest was not really part of the original plan.  We just wanted to aptly represent our fandom and group, Xena Philippines.

It turned out to be a good move 'cause at the end of the day I came home with the trophy for 2nd place.  Yey!  I need to get around to having it engraved.

First place went to that guy I am crossing swords with.  He's dressed as a character from Warcraft.  As I don't play the game, I couldn't identify him but take it from me, his costume was pretty awesome!

While 3rd place went to Joy who came dressed as Danaya (of Engkantadia).  It is surprising to see her change from street clothes to costume 'cause it is as if her personality changes --- pretty much a Clark Kent-Superman syndrome.  Really cool! hehehe

I went home that evening tired to the bone but satisfied at a job well done.  I'd like to thank all the people who helped me in getting my costume together in time:
  • Emil - for lending us his shinai for us to use in place of the real sword(s) (wushu and katana) that we brought
  • Gigi
  • Icheb
  • Ms. Janet - my kustorera
  • Kasuy - for painting my staves for me
  • Miao
  • Pao
  • Tina
  • Ms. Wowie - my cobbler (shoe maker)
Kasuy worked on her costume on her own and kudos for the marvelous turn out of the costume.  For the next activity I am going to help her out with her hair.  She just isn't blonde enough!  I'm off hunting for a wig for her with the right shade of blonde.  It's so hard to find.  Sigh.

Thank you also to all my friends who appreciated the effort we put into the costume and took our photos, hehehe.

I didn't have my own camera so these pictures here are all taken from sites of other NWA members here on multiply and on other photosharing sites. Off the top of my head, thank you to Kasuy, Gigi, Mark, and Nina. I know I am forgetting other people but I can't recall anymore who posted what, hehehe.

Since this is MY site, I'm only posting pics that have me in it, hehehe. If there is any place on the net where I can be the star of my own show, it's gotta be here.
