I understand why so many people like Twilight the best of the series. It is because it is the happiest of the 3 books (so far). It is the romantic (getting to know you) story of Edward and Bella. Most teenagers I've spoken with have mentioned that they didn't like New Moon all that much and I can understand why.

New Moon is a book that dwells on Bella's depression when Edward left her. It is angst-filled almost from start to finish. I went through a similar experience so I could intimately relate with her apathy and catatonia and seeming recklessness. While New Moon is not a happy book, I feel that it was necessary, if only for the purpose of serving as a transition between Twilight and Eclipse. For the most part because New Moon is where Bella actually gets to know Jacob Black and becomes close to him.

I have a confession. While I am enamoured with Edward Cullen, I totally agreed that Bella and Jake make sense, even though Jake is 2 years younger than her (and looks about 25). It's not just the fact that he is more human (because he is). It was something else. Bella's relationship with Edward, the way she acted around him reminded me of Catherine (played by Linda Hamilton) and Vincent (played by Ron Perlman) in the 80's TV series Beauty and the Beast (insert music of "The First Time I Loved Forever") will know what I mean. They were almost always romantic, standing close and whispering to each other, etc. With Jake, Bella was more natural, more uninhibited. More ... herself.

And then there is the difference of cold and hard as stone and warm as the sun. Edward and Jake are polar opposites --- in color, temperature, malleability, temperament, etc.

It is difficult to choose. And I know in the end she needs to choose just one. Poor Bella. This will be a tough choice for her to make.

New Moon, for me, is a "must read".

For those who haven't read the book yet, click here to read the first chapter of New Moon.

When you can live forever
                 what do you live for?

I've been hearing raves about Twilight for quite some time now but with everything I have to do and the books I have lined up to read, I just never got around to it. I only realized how good it (and the succeeding books) really is when my daughter bought the books with her own money and started reading and COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN.

Fyi, my daughter is not really a reader so seeing her so engrossed in a book was not only gratifying to me, but also mystifying. What is she reading that has her so absorbed? So much so she was asking for word definitions and staying up all night just to finish the book. To sate my curiousity I finally got around to borrowing the books from her and reading them myself. Fantastic!

Twilight is the story of Edward and Bella. Bella is a quiet, mature teenage girl who decided to live with her dad when her mom remarried. Edward ... Edward is a vampire.

Anne Rice has prepared us for the romantic vampire and while I will confess to being "secretly in love" with Lestat, Stephenie Meyer made me fall in love again, but with Edward and Bella. You read it right --- Edward and Bella. Even before seeing who the actors will be in the Twilight Movie, I already had an image in my head of what they look like and how they interact with each other. I could see them, feel them, smell them. (Yes, I have a very vivid imagination.)

Twilight is ... a love story, a romance. Like I said, it's all about Edward and Bella. There are parts of the story that would interest guys but mostly this was written for girls. I can already see the multitude of teenage girls wishing they were Bella and swooning over Edward. And with the movie coming out in December you can expect book sales to rise even more and even more women (not just teenage girls) pining for Edward.

I don't normally like reading books written in the first person. With this book (and its siblings) I didn't even notice that it was written in the first person at all. Stephenie Meyer writes so vividly and her writing is fast-paced that I wasn't bored for a second. I didn't even skip any paragraphs or sentences. As I read I found myself inhaling, absorbing her words and living her story. In other words, as I read through the pages, I was Bella.

As I was reading I couldn't help hearing Tom Cruise in my head saying "You complete me". Oh no! Does this mean I like Tom Cruise? First Lestat de Lioncourt and now Jerry Maguire! I better watch it, hehehe.

To get back on track, though, Twilight is definitely a must read ... for a select audience. Definitely Anne Rice fans will like this book, and definitely romance junkies and teenage gilrs will like it, too.

"And as I gaze into those golden eyes just inches away from mine and smell his sweet scent, I find I cannot look away nor stay away. I confess, I am in love with Edward Cullen."

The story does not end with Twilight. It continues on with New Moon, then Eclipse, and soon, Breaking Dawn. Three excellent and seamless additions to the story of Edward and Bella, but with additional complications.

Stephenie Meyer is also in the middle of writing Midnight Sun, a companion to Twilight, which is basically the same story but from Edward's perspective. Click here to read the first chapter. I'm really excited about Midnight Sun, too. I hope the book comes out soon.

VideoOlsen-Sullivan do the tangoMay 1, '08 5:37 AM

Jimmy Olsen and Chloe Sullivan "attempt" to do the tango. I say attempt because, while it is stylized, it is also obvious that the dance was choreographed for and performed by a couple of amateurs. Both of them lack the grace to perform this sensual dance properly.

That aside, I thought they looked cute, hehehe. This scene actually reminded me of Ahnold and Jamie Lee in True Lies. Watch and enjoy!

Here is a video of Mia singing one of her songs (I don't know the title, sorry) with several members of the cast singing along. By the way, this is a really nice episode. A walk down memory lane and a big issue is resolved.

I just watched the pilot of Knight Rider (2008) with my sister while having dinner. I don't know if you will agree with me but ... I LOVED IT.

To begin with , just so you know ... the Michael/KITT relationship continues ... but with a different Michael and a different KITT. Instead of simply revamping on the old series, what they have done is to, in effect, continue from where the old series left off, but 25 years later. In other words, there was an effort at continuity. There was no mention of what happened to the old KITT. I guess I will have to find episodes of the old series to find out. I hope he is still alive.

Yes, folks, before you ask, David Hasselhoff appears towards the end of the episode when he introduces himself to Mike (Traceur) and passes on the legacy. I hope he appears a few more times within the season.
Where Michael Knight and KITT fought crime all over the U.S. and Mexico (basically anyplace they could drive to), Mike Traceur and KITT are going global. Their first official assignment: Prague, Czech Republic.
Instead of Devon Miles we have Charles Graiman who supposedly came up with the technology that made KITT. I don't think they ever mentioned a Charles Graiman in the old series. But then, I was a little girl when I used to watch Knight Rider so it is possible I just don't remember it. I do remember the guy who financed the project, Wilton Knight.
Instead of April or Bonnie we now have Sarah Graiman (played by Deanna Russo) who is the daughter of Charles Graiman and a scientist herself in the same field as her father and Dylan Fass (played by Wayne Kasserman) as the mechanic.
The new Knight Rider also has the addition of an FBI agent named Carrie Ravai (played by Sydney Tamiia Poitier) who is a friend of Charles Graiman. Yes, she IS the daughter of THE Sidney Poitier, the Oscar Award Winner.

There are similarities and differences between the old KITT and the new KITT.
Knight Industries TWO Thousand Knight Industries THREE Thousand
Make and Model Black Pontiac Firebird Trans Am with artificial intelligence
He has 1 (one) swivelling red eye
Starts off as a black Ford Mustang Cobra, then becomes a white Mustang GT, then later becomes violet. I think this KITT can change color and Ford Mustang model as needed. Yes, he also has artificial intelligence
Has 2 (two) swivelling red eyes
Voice William Daniels Val Kilmer - he is soooo sexy! *drool!*
Bulletproof armored body and bulletproof windows has a force field which only works when the computer is on. Otherwise, it is a regular car.
Repair When he gets damaged (which isn't often) he has April (and later Bonnie) to take care of him) So long as the computer is turned on, nanotechnology allows KITT to repair himself.
Driving
self-drive with option for manual driving by driver
Driver Michael Knight (originally Michael Arthur Long, formerly a police officer) played by David Hasselhoff Michael Traceur (son of Michael Knight, but he didn't know his father or OF his father until later. He thought that his father abandoned him and his mom, Jessie, when he was a baby.), former Army Ranger played by Justin Breuning
Mobile Office / Repair Facility 18 wheeler truck airplane
Nemesis Goliath and KARR too soon to tell

It is possibly the nostalgia factor, but I still think this is a good show, and I would recommend it.

Blog EntryPetition to demand an apology from ABC NetworkOct 4, '07 11:56 PM
for everyone
Below is a petition going around the net regarding the derogatory remark made on Desperate Housewives by character Susan Meyer-Delpino.
To the producers of "Desperate Housewives" and ABC:

We are writing to express concern and hurt about a racially-discriminatory comment made in an episode of Desperate Housewives on 9/30/07. In a scene in which Susan was told by her gynecologist that she might be hitting menopause, she replied, "Can I just check those diplomas because I just want to make sure that they are not from some med school in the Philippines."

As members and allies of the Filipino American community, we are writing to inform that this type of derogatory remark was discriminatory and hurtful, and such a comment was not necessary to maintain any humor in the show.  Additionally, a statement that devalues Filipinos in healthcare is extremely unfounded, considering the overwhelming presence of Filipinos and Filipino Americans in the medical field.  Filipinos are the second largest immigrant population in the United States, with many entering the U.S. (and successfully passing their U.S. licensing boards!) as doctors, nurses, and medical technicians.  In fact, the Philippines produces more U.S. nurses than any other country in the world.  So, to belittle the education, experience, or value of Filipino Americans in health care is extremely disrespectful and plain and simply ignorant. Many of the hospitals in major metropolitan areas of the U.S. (and the world) would not be able to operate without its Filipino and Filipino American staff members.

As Filipino Americans and allies, we band together to ensure that this type of hateful message should not be allowed to continue on our television and radio airwaves. Given the recent amounts of media attention that has been given to Michael Richards (against African Americans), Isaiah Washington (against gays), and Rosie O'Donnell (against Asian/Chinese Americans), it is ridiculous that this type of hateful speech made it through various screenwriters, the show's producers, the show's actors, and ABC itself.

We demand a public apology to the Filipino American community, and we demand the episode be edited to remove the ignorant and racist remark. We will not allow hateful messages against our community (or any other oppressed community) to continue.

Sincerely,
The Undersigned

for everyone
Start:     Sep 26, '07
When I was a little girl The Bionic Woman starring Lindsay Wagner was one of the shows I would rush home to watch. This was a spin off from The Six Million Dollar Man starring Lee Majors.

It is the new millenia and our bionic woman has, of course, been revamped and modernized. Actress Michelle Ryan plays the role of Jamie Sommers (aka The Bionic Woman) in this revamp of the popular 70s science fiction series.

I'm going to give this revamp a chance, just as I did with the revamped Dr. Who. I hope it lives up to my expectations and yours.

Happy viewing (and downloading), everyone!
