No, that isn't my boyfriend. He is, however, a friend, and a cast member of that uber-fun and uber-exciting musical production called Zsazsa Zaturnnah Ze Muzikal. In this installment of the show the main cast was composed of:

K Brosas as Zsazsa Zaturnnah
Kalila Aguilos as Queen Femina Suarestellar Baroux
Tuxqs Rutaquio as Ada
Arnold Reyes as Dodong
Nar Cabico as Didi

My Personal Assessment of the actors
If you've never seen Eula perform the role, you will be content with K Brosas. She gives a different flavor to the role (definitely!) and has an interesting delivery certain scenes. Maybe because this is her first time to play the role, but often I felt that she would lose momentum or power on some of her lines or would anticipate the next thing that will happen so she ends up looking in that direction before it happens.

K is taller than Tuxqs and has a more masculine voice, so, in effect, although she has the female body in the persona, she actually became more masculine, hehehe. I really enjoyed the portion where ZZZ does this sexy dance --- in Eula's version she does a pole dancer routine. In K's version she becomes a macho dancer --- which actually made more sense! I mean, between a gay bar and a regular strip joint, which one would Ada most likely have seen dancing --- a man or a woman, right?

K still falters but I think that with repetition she will finally get the role down pat. Not to worry, she still has 10 more shows to do, so she is getting all the practice she needs.

Kalila, Kalila, Kalila ... stellar as always! You have a voice that belies your size, hehehe. Love the accents you adopted for this run. And your french was fluid.

Tuxqs was lovely as always! He has this role down to a tee I bet he does it in his sleep! The new blockings and scenes were hilarious! I loved the scene where he threw clothes at Didi and told him to get out. It was so ... afternoon soap opera-ish! hehehe. More challenging dance sequences, too!

Arnold, m'boy, you've been working out more! Those cuts, those bulging muscles ... someone's been paying attention to what the girls and gays like! hehehe. I hear that nowadays you are more ripped than Lauren. I didn't think that was possible but I guess Lauren must have been told not to pump too much 'cause, King Kong that he is, he is already big enough even without the Bodyshot Noodles. Great acting and your singing is much improved. Hurrah! As for the kiss ... more, more, more!

Nar was a breath of fresh air. I've seen him before in the cast and he seems to be a quiet and shy guy --- and now I see him as Didi. *shocker!* He had big shoes to fill! First Ricci Chan's, then Joey Paras', and guess what? The shoes fit! Maybe because Nar is younger he transformed Didi into a more acrobatic and super "kitikiti" character than he was originally portrayed. He also got the comicbook poses right.

Singing ... he doesn't have the range of Ricci, or the licks of Joey, but he definitely owned the role. He brought in some Ricci flavor, and some Joey flavor, plus bucketsful of Nar flavor. He was able to inject quite a few interesting curls and licks of his own.

All in all, it was fun and definitely a show worth repeating, and repeating, and repeating.

Warning! There is one cast member I actually did NOT like. I don't know his name but every time he comes out on stage I make a special effort to look somewhere else because he rubs me the wrong way. You'll spot him easily enough. He's chubby, wears glasses, has tinted hair, and acts like he's on speed. We all know that acting on stage and on film is different. On stage you have to overact so that the audience in the nosebleed section could still see the emotion you are trying to portray. This guy, though, seems to have taken it to heart, and OVERACTS even more than the most overacting cast member ... and THAT, folks, says a LOT!

It's crunch time, folks!  This is not a drill!  The super-heroine Zsazsa Zaturnnah is hitting the stage once again for your viewing pleasure.  There are still many tickets available!  Here is an overview of the available seats as of today.  Unshaded sections are available seats.

Which actor would you most like to see as Dodong?

Ooh! Eye candy! What's your flavor, mate? Do you like your Dodong:
  • Fair skinned, confident, seasoned, and ripped?
  • Tall, dark, and handsome probinsiyanong boy-next-door, and ripped?
  • Tall, slit-eyed, shy, young, and ripped?
Arnold and Lauren alternated in the role from the 1st to the 3rd run. And Janvier took Lauren's spot in the 4th run. On this fifth and (supposed) final run, Zsazsa Zaturnnah will have 15 shows ... enough to give each Dodong an equal number of appearances.

Either of the three is guaranteed to cause palpitations among the women and gay members of the audience. Whichever one you choose, one thing is for sure ... you will definitely enjoy the show.

Blog EntryAda --- double the fun, double the pleasure.May 20, '07 9:10 AM
for everyone
Remember THIS POST I made in January? This was the one show that Tuxqs was unable to perform in and Vince (thespian, musical arranger, lyricist, composer, musical director extraordinaire) had no choice but to step in. The response of the audience was very good so for this 5th run, Vince will reprise the role alternating with Tuxqs.

There are a total of 15 shows all in all. As far as I know there is no third Ada for this run. The following are the shows Vince will be performing in:
  • June 16 (Saturday) - 3pm
  • June 17 (Sunday) - 8pm
  • June 22 (Friday) - 8pm
  • June 23 (Saturday) - 8pm
  • June 24 (Sunday) - 3pm
  • June 30 (Saturday) - 3pm
  • July 1 (Sunday) - 8pm
For those who are solid fans of Tuxqs, you can catch him on the following dates:
  • June 15 (Friday) - 8pm
  • June 16 (Saturday) - 8pm
  • June 17 (Sunday) - 3pm
  • June 23 (Saturday) - 3pm
  • June 24 (Sunday) - 8pm
  • June 29 (Friday) - 8pm
  • June 30 (Saturday) - 8pm
  • July 1 (Sunday) - 3pm
Zsazsa Zaturnnah, Ze Muzikal's 5th run will be performed at the RCBC Theater in Makati (Ayala Avenue corner Buendia, Makati City). Tickets for some of the dates are available HERE.

Question: What shows are available?
Answer: The dates I am helping sell tickets for are as follows:
  • June 16 (Saturday) - 3pm
  • June 16 (Saturday) - 8pm
  • June 24 (Sunday) - 8pm
  • July 01 (Sunday) - 3pm

Question: How much are the tickets?
Answer: Ticket prices are as follows:
  • P800 - Loge
  • P800 - Orchestra Center
  • P700 - Orchestra Sides
  • P500 - Balcony
Question: How do we pay for the tickets?
Answer: There are several ways that we have employed in the past.
  1. deposit into my bank account followed by a text (or better yet MMS) to 09189442516 showing the payment made and amount deposited. Warning: Text me, don't call me. I don't pick up the call when I don't recognize the number.
  2. we meet up and you give payment directly to me
For bank deposit, my details are as follows:
Account Name: Penelope A. Tan
Bank: Banco de Oro
SA# 1150070968
Do not just make a deposit or G-Cash payment without checking with me if the tickets are available. Only make the deposit or payment upon my confirmation. Once I receive the amount, I will text you back a confirmation message.
Question: How will I get the tickets I paid for?
Answer: You have the following options:
  1. You can meet up with me at a designated time and place
  2. You can pick up the tickets at the front desk at the show before watching
  3. The tickets could be delivered to you via courier at no extra charge.
The 2nd and 3rd option are only available for those who make a payment via deposit. For pick up arrangements ... my preference is to meet just once a week so that my expenses are at a minimum. I am willing to meet at:
  • Cubao at Fandom Cafe located at the ground floor of Regalia Towers on P. Tuazon, almost at the corner of EDSA, beside SEAOIL. A vicinity map can be found HERE.
  • Figaro at the 3rd Floor of the Shangri-la Mall
  • Tsokolate at the 2nd floor of SM Makati
These pickups need to be scheduled as I cannot be in all three places at one time. So we need to coordinate via text or chat.

Blog EntryZe Muzikal has morphed!Jan 28, '07 12:03 PM
for everyone
I watched Ze Muzikal's last show for the 4th run last night and ... as you guys know, I've seen this play a LOT! This particular show was very different from the previous ones, in my experience.

For starters, Tuxqs was unable to perform last night (because of a bad case of the croaks ... meaning he lost his voice completely) and the multi-talented Vince de Jesus (composer, lyricist, musical arranger of Zsazsa Zaturnnah Ze Muzikal, among others) had to step in and play the role in his place, IMMEDIATELY changing the flavor of the show. The other actors had to adjust to Vince's style and rendering of the role, which had marked differences from Tuxqs. Same lines, mostly (except for ad libs) similar rendition ... but different, folks. Really different. I can't say one actor is better than another because I've only seen Vince play the role once and Tuxqs a gazillion times, but definitely, both are good. In as far as singing is concerned, though, I can definitely say that Vince is the better singer. Does this make Vince Tuxqs' permanent understudy? Carry niya!

Wenah played Dina B. last night. That was new for me, too. I've seen Wilma and Kalila play the role but this was the first time I've seen Wenah out of the chorus of Ze Muzikal. Pretty, pretty! Ang sexy ni Wenah in the green costume and green hair!

In the second act, Skyzx (Nora A.) was replaced by another actor. What is happening?!? Is everyone getting sick? The girl who took her place was pretty good, too, and actually kind of resembled her so it wasn't immediately apparent.

Queen Femina Suarestellar Baroux was performed by Agot Isidro. I thought her attack of the role was fantastic! Instead of doing a quasi-Brit accent, she instead internalized Eartha Kitt (Catwoman [of 3 episodes] of TV's Batman), Meow! Rrrrrrolling RRRRRs and all! What was cool was she sustained it throughout her entire performance, including the singing parts.

Arnold was great, as usual. I think he can now do this role in his sleep! I also think he has no fat left in his body ... he is that lean! His singing, by the way, has vastly improved! You will hear the evidence of this in the new double-disc soundtrack. Sorry, no pic. Masyado na kaming maraming pic with Arnold from previous runs so we decided against taking one with him last night. On hind sight, I think we should have. Oh, well.

And of course, hail to the queen! It isn't fair, really. Great actor, great singer, tapos ang ganda ganda talaga ni Joey (Didi) in his finale gown! Pahiram minsan, ha!

Kudos to the production and cast of Zsazsa Zaturnnah! Mabuhay kayong lahat!

For those of you who have not yet purchased the soundtrack, it will soon be available in your local record bars. In the meantime, visit the
official website of Zsazsa Zaturnnah, Ze Muzikal. The soundtrack is available for download with a purchase of a digijooze card. Details are available on the site.

Until the next run, folks!

Blog EntryIntroducing: Dodong IIIJan 27, '07 6:45 PM
for everyone

Today I had the chance to watch the new Dodong (Janvier Daily) perform (in the fantastic show, Zsazsa Zaturnnah, Ze Muzikal!) and it was definitely a new experience for me. For one thing, the cast acted (or should I say, performed) differently with him than they do with Arnold (Reyes) and Lauren (Novero). I can't help but feel that they were giving this newcomer all the support he needed to be able to do his character well. This is good, by the way.

In as far as physique is concerned, he definitely has the noodles! This young Gardo look-alike definitely has the gals and the gays drooling. And, yes, he can dance very well! Singing, though, is another thing. I think he will benefit from voice lessons. He can carry a tune, but he has difficulty sustaining his notes, particularly at the high ones. As for his acting ... very raw, yet very sincere. This is just my opinion, of course, but I think he was well suited for the role. He was definitely your probinsiyanong "boy next door", complete with accent and pagka-religioso. I found his characterization charming and was a gust of fresh air.

I especially liked the fact that in the kissing scene with Ada, he did not end the kiss until the scene actually ended and the lights dimmed. As a matter of fact, he even waited a few seconds after before pulling back slowly. This, more than anything else, impressed me. That he could be professional enough to know that this is just a job and does not reflect on him as a person and can do the demands of the job with no qualms. Kudos! And, if I may say ... kilig! hehehe

If Direk Chris and company decides to keep him for the next run, I hope he will take the time for voice lessons. I would definitely look forward to watching him perform again, if only to see how much he would have grown from today 'til then.

If Ze Muzikal was meant to show up Ze Muveeh then, honey, that is EXACTLY what it did!

I've been watching Ze Muzikal since the 1st run and this is the nth time I watched this play. I won't give the exact number anymore, but trust me, I've watched it a lot! For those who have seen the play in the previous runs you will be glad to know that there are quite a few new elements added.
  • new and improved soundtrack - the back up vocals are outstanding!
  • new adlibs
  • jazzed up costumes
  • new cast members
The primary characters are still played by the same people as in the previous runs but Janvier Daily was brought in to alternate Arnold as Dodong. Lauren really wanted to reprise the role but his shooting schedule just wouldn't allow it. But he says he will surely be available for the next run.
  • Eula was fabulous, as always and sang so effortlessly. Those high notes don't faze her a bit. I enjoy watching her portray Zsazsa Zaturnnah. I particularly enjoy watching her channeling Ada (Tuxqs) in her private moments (nothing kinky, folks!) with Didi. It reminds us that Zsazsa and Ada are actually the same person. I commented to her that I liked it that her costume was improved. It isn't as faded anymore and it was "bling"-ed up. She proudly told me that she added the bling herself. Wow! It really turned out well!
  • Tuxqs owns the role! In our eyes there is no other Ada. Love the new dance moves, by the way. And I'm glad they gave you more singing parts.
  • Everybody loves Didi. Ergo, everybody loves Joey! This role (not counting the support cast of TP) has to be the most worked one. When I think about it, it seems that Didi is in 95% of the scenes. Phenomenal singing, Joey! My friends can't stop raving about you!
  • Arnold reprises his role as the lovable, hunkilicious "boy next door", Dodong. Singing has improved, folks! He's been practicing, hehehe. Nice bod to boot! Is it my imagination but does Arnold become yummier every run? hehehe
  • Kalila played Queen Femina Suarestellar Baroux in the show I watched. I've seen both her and Agot perform and personally I prefer Kalila's version because she comes out as more sinister. And I think she nailed the accent better. Maybe this is because Agot is not used to playing evil roles, hehehe. Don't get me wrong, Agot is actually good, too. Very good in fact. I just prefer Kalila.
  • The Amazonistas - I am guilty of not knowing all their names. I can't be sure but I think it is Dina B. (Wilma Doesn't), Vilma S. (Deeda), Nora A. (Skyze?), and Sharon C. (Mayen). Ze muveeh amazonistas were simply minions and mentioning who was who was not even necessary. In Ze Muzikal you KNOW who is who! These 4 ladies (plus the great direction of Direk Chris) have made these 4 sexy minion larger than life and made them interesting characters in the story. I don't want to get into detail about it but you have to see the play to understand what I mean fully. hehehe.
  • The support cast has had quite a few changes. The only members that are original from the 1st run to the present are:
    • Wenah
    • Red Nuestro
    • Bong Cabrera
    • Carl
    • the lady who plays Aling Britney
    • the tiny little lady with glasses
    • and the lady who went from ugly to pretty (although in this run, that didn't quite happen. Her long locks are gone, and she is either "heavyset" or pregnant. I think she is pregnant, which makes me wonder what she is doing working in a play? Di ba delikado? Laki na ng tummy niya eh.)
    • Other repeating actors (but not original cast members are:
      • the guy who plays Fr. Bernie
      • the guy who plays Ben Bolroco
zzzThe soundtrack is a MUST BUY. Kudos to Vince de Jesus for his wonderful work on this album.

For the opening night of the 4th run of Zsazsa Zaturnnah I brought along with me my family and some friends from TK. We all had a blast! I will post my review in the morning. For now, let me just post some pics we took that evening.

We were also lucky to be granted an exclusive sneak peek at the new Dodong, Janvier Daily. See last few pics and drool over the noodles! hehehe.

Of course, I had to make sure to have some pics with Tuxqs, Eula, Joey, Janvier, Vince, Carl, and Direk Chris. We were supposed to have a pic with Arnold but he had to rush off for an early shoot.

I will say no more here and leave my words for the review in the morning. All I will say for now is ... guaranteed 100% fun, fuN, fUN, FUN! A show you wouldn't want to miss.

ReviewReviewReviewZsazsa Zaturnnah Ze MuveehDec 31, '06 3:18 AM
for everyone
Category:Movies
Genre: Kids & Family
I finally got around to watching Ze Muveeh! I took with me my mom, my sister, and my daughter. Having paid to watch Zsazsa Zaturnnah Ze Muzikal (for the uninformed, that is the play version) ten times in the last 3 runs I will admit to having quite a few expectations about the movie. It's taken me a couple of days to get around to making this review because I've been trying to find the best way to share my thoughts on what I saw.

My comments on Ze Muveeh itself:

I got the point of modifying the story a bit ... it was to intentionally put some differences from the play and the book. But the changes were not major so should not distress the fans overly. However:
  • The addition of the scene with Lester was ok. It provided the background on why Ada was so bitter.
  • The scene with the dad pushing young Ada's face in the drum of water was good, too. By the way, who was that kid? He was quite good looking. Looked familiar somehow.
  • I thought "Arubabes" and "Polvoron" were superfluous characters but I get that they were brought in to attract the teenage crowd.
  • I didn't like it that Aling Britney became an adulteress.
  • The addition of Crystal to the characters was ok, because it helped to emphasize just how delicious Dodong is.
  • Fr. Bernie was toned down more. Awwww!!!
  • What in the world happened to the Amazonistas? They got super-duper downplayed!
  • I liked the fight scenes with the Amazonistas. Very Hongkong "fight sequence" style. Echoes of chinese movies and The Matrix. They were a tad short, though.
  • shipSpecial effects are ok but still need more work. Philippines, we need to catch up to the technology! Our CGI is not yet clean! Best CGI scene for me was the "landing" of the Andromeda-looking spaceship of the Amazonistas.
  • The ending ... the scene "along the riles" was superfluous in my opinion. "Ikaw Ang Superhero" duet was a already a high note and a good ending.
  • By the way, the scenes being out of sequence really screwed with my head.

The Songs & Music:

Vince, you rock! I really love you! Looking forward to hearing what new stuff you cooked up for Ze Muzikal 4th run! I'll be seeing you again really soon, and you know I will be getting another copy of the soundtrack, hehehe.
  • Although I love "Nakakasilaw Na Ilaw" I am soooo glad it wasn't performed in the movie. It would have gotten murdered if Chocoleit had to sing it. As it is, he sang a teensy bit at the end and to me it felt like nails on a chalkboard. Sigh.
  • I really liked "Ikaw Ang Superhero". Great music video by Alfred Vargas with awesome vocals by Red Nuestro. Nakaka-in love!
  • "Walang Ibang Pangarap" is always a favorite. I just wish the movie had rendered it better.
  • I was curious to see how the Amazonistas would introduce themselves in the movie. Turns out their role was very minor. Glad a lot of elements were still left for the play.

The Actors:

  • zzzZsazsa Padilla plays the title role of Zsazsa Zaturnnah.
    • The body - Ok, so she definitely has the body. thank you, Dr. Belo.
    • Singing - Yes, she can sing. We know that 'cause that's how she started her showbiz career. And yet, I couldn't help but feel that her renditions of the songs did not pack the right amount of punch. Maybe she hasn't channeled the role enough yet, I don't know. But I still think Eula sings the songs better. Maybe the fact that Eula had to sing the songs and perform live at least 30 times has something to do with it.
    • The acting - she's just ok. But I think that maybe she and Rustom should have talked to each other a bit before the actual shoot so that Zsazsa could have adapted some of Rustom's "Ada" mannerisms. A lot of people seem to forget that they are supposed to be the same person but in different guises.
  • Chocoleit as Didi. He carried the role well. I'm just glad he wasn't required to sing much, hehe.
  • ada-dodongRustom Padilla plays the role of Ada, the gay salon owner and secret identity of Zsazsa Zaturnnah. Rustom did well enough in the role of Ada although there were some moments that I felt were "too gay" in the sense that ... from reading the book and watching the play I imagined Ada as being the classy kind of gay, you know, not the "palengkera" kind that Didi is supposed to be. He is such a handsome man that he makes a beautiful woman. Seeing him in a wig, make-up, a dress, and high heels was both amusing and dismaying. I know that Rustom has "come out of the closet" and all but I still can't help but feel some dismay at how much he has chosen to embrace his feminine side. In my opinion he can still be gay and not talk differently (with a nasal twang or a super high pitch). I hated the way he looked in "Walang Ibang Pangarap". I guess I expect Rustom to act feminine, not gay. Is that asking too much?

  • dodongAlfred Vargas plays the role of Dodong, the quiet, macho neighbor and town heartthrob. I liked him in the role. He looked like the real deal. He was probinsiyano enough, he had the noodles (eye candy!), and when he looked at Ada you could see that he was really attracted to her. Shirt on or off, Alfred Vargas was definitely worth watching. I thought it was hilarious, though how many opportunities were given to him to keep his shirt off! hehehe. For example, at the beginning ... was it really that hot in the morning that he could not transfer bread from tray to container without a shirt on? I mean, seriously! Or was that just a ploy so that Ada would look at him? What do you think? Not denying that I enjoyed the view, hehehe. I guess, I was waiting for the scene in the book where he is supposed to be lifting boxes and then strips off his shirt. Now THAT would have been HOT!!! Zoom in on the noodles, if you please!
  • queen feminaqueen feminaPops Fernandez as Queen Femina Suarestellar Baroux did well enough, I suppose. Her body definitely looks great (thanks, Dr. Belo!) and she showed it off to perfection in her Vanessa Leon "battle gown". The accent ... she couldn't maintain it. I think she would have benefited from some speech coaching first so that her delivery would have been better. Overall, though, it was just ok. By the way, I think she looked better in her battle gown than in her first costume, but the first costume was really cool, hehehe. I didn't like the headpiece of the first costume, though ... snaky!

It is difficult not to compare the play and the movie. Personally, I think the play is a hundred times better and the movie version was just an ok rendition. I have to keep in mind, not everyone can afford to shell out the kind of money needed to watch a play as opposed to a movie. Hey! Maybe Direk Chris will come out with some film footage of the play! I'd buy that! That would be great if they did!

I wonder if this 4th run will be interactive theater? I hope so. Carl, you rock!
